Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by National Chairman Tanimu Turaki, on Saturday visited former President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library, Abeokuta, Ogun State. Members of the delegation included former Niger State governor Babangida Aliyu, Deputy National Chairman Taofeek Arapaja, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, and Ambassador Folake Marcus-Bello. They were received by Ogun PDP leaders before a closed-door meeting.
Speaking after the meeting, Turaki said the visit was to seek Obasanjo’s guidance and support as the newly elected leadership of the opposition party. He described Obasanjo as an experienced elder statesman whose role in strengthening democratic institutions remains significant. “Having been given the opportunity to serve, the new leadership of the opposition party thought it wise to visit Obasanjo to drink from his wealth of wisdom and seek for his blessings and support,” he said.
Turaki added that the PDP was prepared for the 2027 elections, saying the party would demonstrate its readiness by winning upcoming governorship polls in Ekiti and Osun states. “PDP is battle-ready for 2027,” he said. Addressing party members later, he urged unity and mobilisation, while other leaders also called on members to support the party’s leadership ahead of future elections.
