Mob lynches man after allegedly killing mother in Niger

A 25-year-old man, Adamu Abdullahi, was lynched by a mob in Suleja, Niger State, on Saturday after allegedly stabbing his 45-year-old mother, Hauwa Sanusi, to death during a dispute over inheritance. The incident occurred in the early hours of December 13 in Suleja town, the headquarters of Suleja Local Government Area.

Sources said the suspect, who had recently returned to the area after a long absence, attacked his mother at home with a knife following a disagreement over his share of his late father’s property. Her screams reportedly attracted neighbours, who apprehended the suspect as he attempted to flee.

Confirming the incident, Niger State Police Command spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said: “On December 13, 2025 at about 1.30am, a report received indicated that one Hawa Sanusi 45yrs of Suleja Area was killed by her son Adamu Abdullahi 25yrs.” He added that the suspect was lynched by a mob, the knife was recovered, and efforts were ongoing to arrest those involved.
