US Congress: America will not overlook killings in Nigeria

The United States House Appropriations Committee has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing global religious persecution, with particular focus on Nigeria. In a post on Wednesday, the committee stated, “America will not look away as innocent lives are stolen… Religious freedom and atrocity response are central to our NSRP bill.” It added that appropriators, under President Donald Trump’s directive, conducted an on-the-ground mission to Nigeria to inform policy recommendations. Rep. Riley Moore described the visit as a “very productive” one.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu confirmed hosting the US delegation on Sunday as part of ongoing consultations aimed at boosting counter-terrorism cooperation and regional stability. The mission comes amid diplomatic friction following Washington’s redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern over alleged Christian persecution a claim Abuja denies. Ribadu also met with Tiv and Catholic leaders, while US lawmakers held hearings and briefings on the situation, with Trump ordering a formal investigation.
