US delegation meets Benue clerics, monarch over killings

A United States fact-finding delegation on alleged attacks on Christians in Nigeria visited Benue State on Monday, holding talks with Catholic bishops and the Tiv traditional ruler.

US Congressman Riley Moore disclosed the visit on X, stating: “It was an honour and deeply moving to meet with his excellency Bishop Wilfred Anagbe, Bishop Isaac Dugu, and His Royal Highness James Ioruza… to discuss the ongoing genocidal campaign by the Fulani in Benue State.”

Moore said the US would not ignore the plight of affected communities, adding, “Our brothers and sisters in Christ will no longer suffer in silence… The United States has heard your cries.”

He also praised President Bola Tinubu for rescuing 100 abducted Catholic schoolchildren and noted that discussions with Nigerian officials explored concrete security measures, pointing to an “established joint task force between Nigeria and the US” as evidence of growing cooperation.
