Soldiers demand probe into alleged corruption in 90 Battalion, Warri

Soldiers in the Nigerian Army’s 90 Battalion, Warri, are calling for an independent probe into alleged corruption, welfare neglect, checkpoint racketeering, and religious bias, insisting that conditions have “deteriorated to an alarming degree.”

Soldiers serving in the Nigerian Army’s 90 Battalion in Koko, Warri, have raised fresh allegations of corruption, welfare failures, internal power struggles, and religious bias in duty postings, despite a recent denial by the Army.

Speaking anonymously, they claim that two senior NCOs exert “disproportionate and undue influence,” diverting welfare supplies, sidelining officers, and allegedly receiving weekly returns from revenue-prone checkpoints reportedly assigned mostly to Muslim soldiers. Troops also questioned claims that the commanding officer provides ₦7 million monthly assistance and highlighted irregular administrative practices and rushed internal investigations. Citing deep morale issues and long-standing corruption risks in the Koko axis, the soldiers are demanding a neutral, independent probe and say they are willing to testify if protected from reprisals.
