Keir Starmer and global leaders condemned Russia’s deadly Kyiv strike, accusing Vladimir Putin of undermining peace efforts.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has condemned Vladimir Putin after a Russian missile strike on Kyiv killed 15 people, including four children, and damaged the British Council building.
The cultural institution on Zhylyanska Street was among several sites hit in an overnight assault that also damaged the EU delegation office. Russian sources claimed a dozen individuals were inside the British Council at the time, though this has not been confirmed.
“My thoughts are with all those affected by the senseless Russian strikes on Kyiv,” Starmer said. “Putin is killing children and civilians, and sabotaging hopes of peace. This bloodshed must end.”
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen demanded Moscow “stop its indiscriminatory attacks,” while French President Emmanuel Macron denounced the barrage of “terror and barbarism.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of choosing “ballistics instead of the negotiating table.”
The attack came weeks after Donald Trump’s Alaska peace summit with Putin failed to produce an agreement.
