For 12 months, 48 house members and five senators did not sponsor a bill, move a motion, or join any debate,” a new report by ERGAF-Africa revealed. The findings, which cover June 2023 to June 2024, spotlight lawmakers who remained mute despite thousands of plenary activities.
Forty-eight members of the house of representatives and five senators made no contributions during plenary in 12 months, a new report has revealed.
The report by the Erudite Growth and Advancement Foundation (ERGAF-Africa) tracked the plenary performance of lawmakers from June 14, 2023, to June 13, 2024, the first year of the 10th assembly.
Titled ‘Deliberative Barometer and Policy-Focus Productivity Report’, the document shows that the senate recorded 2,275 plenary activities, while the house logged 4,239. Debates accounted for 29.1 percent of senate activities and 11.9 percent in the house.
Some lawmakers without contributions include Abubakar Baba Zango (Adamawa), Mohammed Inuwa Bassi (Adamawa), Nnabufie Chiwe Clara (Anambra), Abdulkadir Rahis (Borno), Stainless Chijioke Nwodo (Enugu), and Yaya Bauchi Tongo (Gombe).
The report also noted that economic matters dominated senate debates, while security topped the house agenda. A judge has less than a month to decide whether Taylor will remain in the United States or be deported.
