Japan designates city as Nigerians’ hometown, plans special visa scheme

Japan has designated Kisarazu as Nigerians’ official hometown and will introduce a special visa for skilled workers and artisans.

The Japanese Government has named Kisarazu as the official hometown for Nigerians willing to live and work in Japan.

According to a statement by the Director of Information at the State House, Abiodun Oladunjoye, this was announced on Thursday during the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development. The arrangement includes a special visa category for highly skilled Nigerians and artisans ready to upskill.

“The four cities will foster a foundation for two-way exchanges for manpower development that will add value to the economic growth of Japan, Nigeria, and the other three African nations,” Oladunjoye said.

Japan also designated hometowns for Tanzania, Ghana, and Mozambique. Local authorities hope the move will boost population growth and revitalise regions.

Japan’s Prime Minister, Shigeru Ishiba, announced $5.5 billion in new investment for Africa, emphasising private sector growth, youth empowerment, and regional integration.
