The United States has fallen to 10th place in the 2025 Henley Passport Index, with American passport holders able to access 182 destinations visa-free or with visa-on-arrival. This places the U.S. behind several nations in global mobility rankings.

Singapore leads the index with access to 193 destinations, earning the title of the world’s most powerful passport. Japan and South Korea follow in second with 190 destinations. Seven European nations — Germany, Italy, Spain, France, Finland, Ireland, and Denmark — tie for third with 189 destinations.

Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, and Sweden take fourth place with 188. Greece, New Zealand, and Switzerland follow in fifth with 187. The UK ranks sixth with 186 destinations, ahead of Australia and others in seventh with 185. Canada, Estonia, and the UAE rank eighth (184), and four European countries share ninth with 183.

Afghanistan ranks last with just 25 destinations.
“The average number of destinations people are able to access visa-free has nearly doubled… However, this overall increase masks a growing disparity,” said index creator Christian H. Kaelin.
