A Lagos State High Court sitting at Tafawa Balewa Square on Friday sentenced Andrew Nice Ominikoron, a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver, to death by hanging for the rape and murder of 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola.

Delivering the judgment, Justice Sherifat Sonaike held that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt, citing the doctrine of “last seen” and Bamise’s dying declaration.

Ominikoron was arraigned on a five-count charge including conspiracy, rape, murder, and sexual assault.

Bamise was last seen alive on February 26, 2022, after boarding a BRT bus at the Ajah axis. Her disappearance sparked protests and a citywide search.

Nine days later, her body was discovered on Carter Bridge, Lagos Island.
