Ex-LG Chiefs Demand Defence Funds for Grassroots Security!
Former local government chairmen in Edo State are pushing for 20% of Nigeria’s defence budget—about ₦600 billion—to be directly allocated to councils. They argue this funding is essential for local governments to lead the fight against insecurity at the grassroots. The proposal, part of the LG Charter on Insecurity 2026, also calls for state police with local operational commands and a ‘Security-for-Jobs Programme’ to tackle youth unemployment.
