Yoruba Muslim leaders warn public against ‘fake imams’ association

The League of Imams and Alfas in Yorubaland has warned Nigerians against recognising or supporting any group claiming to represent the organisation without official approval.

In a statement issued in Ibadan on Wednesday, the Islamic body said certain individuals were organising fundraising campaigns and public launches while falsely presenting themselves as affiliates of the League. It stressed that the organisation has no connection to such activities.

The League described the emergence of a parallel association as misleading and capable of creating confusion and disunity within the Muslim community. It reaffirmed that it remains the recognised umbrella body for Imams, Alfas and Muslims across the South-West.

According to a report by Vanguard, the League urged community leaders, donors and the public to verify claims of affiliation before offering support.
