Mojtaba Khamenei has declared that the United States was defeated in its conflict with Iran, as tensions persist over the Strait of Hormuz and regional security.
Mojtaba Khamenei has said the United States suffered defeat in its conflict with Iran, in a written message broadcast on state television on Thursday. Marking the country’s annual “Persian Gulf” day, the Iranian leader said recent developments signalled a turning point for the region despite warnings from Donald Trump of a prolonged blockade.
“Today, two months after the largest military deployment and aggression by the world’s bullies in the region, and the United States’ disgraceful defeat in its plans, a new chapter is unfolding for the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz,” Khamenei said. He added that US bases in the region “lack even the capacity to ensure their own security, let alone provide any hope of securing their allies,” while praising Iran’s new management of the Strait of Hormuz as a pathway to “comfort and progress.”
The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Gulf, with Iran restricting traffic through the vital waterway and introducing tolls on vessels passing through it. President Masoud Pezeshkian earlier said a US naval blockade was “doomed to fail,” warning it would increase instability in the region. Military officials, including navy commander Shahram Irani, have also signalled plans to deploy new naval weaponry, underscoring Iran’s defiant stance.
