No fewer than 45 pupils were abducted after armed terrorists invaded three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on Friday, sparking panic across affected communities. The attackers reportedly stormed Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School on motorcycles, firing sporadically before whisking victims away into nearby forests.
A teacher, Elizabeth Olagoke, said, “The terrorists came around 8am,” adding that the gunmen spoke Yoruba, Hausa and Pidgin English. Parents broke down in tears as many children remained missing hours after the attack.
Traditional ruler Oba Tajudeen Abioye confirmed the abduction of 45 pupils, while security agencies said three suspects had been arrested. Oyo authorities said troops, police, hunters and Amotekun operatives had sealed escape routes around the Old Oyo National Park axis as rescue operations intensified.
