Hoodlums on Saturday disrupted the planned opening of a secretariat of the African Democratic Congress in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The youths, who claimed allegiance to the All Progressives Congress in a viral video, stormed the venue, dispersed party supporters and destroyed equipment prepared for the event.
Reacting, the ADC’s 2023 governorship candidate, Effiong Nyong, condemned the attack and blamed it on fear of opposition.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident, with spokesperson Eitokpah Sunday saying, “The hoodlums came from nowhere and scattered the canopies, chairs and sound systems,” adding that officers had been deployed to restore order.
