Sowore heads to Kuje Prison over ‘criminal’ Tinubu post

Activist and AAC presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has been remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre after a Federal High Court revoked his bail over a cybercrime charge stemming from calling President Tinubu a “criminal” on social media.

Omoyele Sowore is back behind bars — and this time, a social media post put him there.

According to Vanguard, the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the firebrand activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre, where he’ll sit until Wednesday when his trial resumes. The charge? A two-count cybercrime case filed by the Department of State Services (DSS) after Sowore called President Bola Tinubu a “criminal” in a social media post.

His troubles compounded when he failed to show up in court on June 16 for his defence — a no-show that cost him dearly. Trial Justice Mohammed Umar didn’t just revoke his bail; he issued a full arrest warrant.

It gets messier. Sowore had already been navigating the case alone after his legal team walked off the matter entirely, leaving him to self-represent.

On Monday, Justice Umar added another twist, dismissing a motion that sought to disqualify him from the trial over alleged bias.

The judge stays. Sowore stays — in Kuje.

For a man who has made a career of speaking truth to power, one post may now define his most consequential legal battle yet.
