The Lagos State Government has officially debunked rumors claiming Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was pressured to resign due to health issues, affirming that he remains fit and fully active in his role.
The Lagos State Government has formally dismissed reports alleging that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was asked to resign on health grounds, labeling the claims as entirely false and misleading. In a statement released by Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Governor, the administration clarified that a publication attributing such reports to Sahara Reporters was fabricated. Akosile emphasized that the Governor is in good health and remains focused on his administrative duties, effectively shutting down speculation regarding a potential leadership change.
Addressing the gravity of the misinformation, the spokesperson stated that the rumors were a calculated effort to create public confusion. “These reports are not only false, they are an intentional attempt to mislead the public,” Akosile said. He further maintained that there has been no external or internal pressure for the Governor to vacate his seat, adding, “Governor Sanwo-Olu is not under any pressure to resign, nor has anyone demanded his resignation. The Governor is well, in excellent health, and continues to fulfill his responsibilities with commitment.”
The official clarification follows viral online reports suggesting that Governor Sanwo-Olu had been urged to step aside to allow Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat to assume leadership of the state. By issuing this rebuttal, the state government aimed to reassure residents and stakeholders of the continuity of the current administration. The statement concluded by reinforcing that the Governor’s health is not a hindrance to his performance, effectively putting an end to the unverified claims of a transition in the Alausa State House.
