The Olufadegin family of Ibadan has accused Olubadan Oba Rashidi Ladoja of trying to impose a preferred candidate as Mogaji, warning the move could spark a lineage crisis.

In a statement issued Saturday, family elder Dauda Adesina said the disputed succession followed the death of the late Mogaji, Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, in April 2025, with contestants Akeem Adeojo and Fatai Omosanjo Amzat locked in a tied second election, according to Vanguard. The family said Amzat’s name was later added to the Olubadan’s list of compound heads without a resolution meeting.
The family alleged the monarch’s move violated Ibadan tradition and linked it to his past political disagreements with the late Adeojo. It appealed to Ladoja to withdraw Amzat’s name and allow the family to choose its own Mogaji.
