Ada Ngozi Otuka, a 63-year-old Nigerian resident of Katy, Texas, faces up to six years in prison after pleading guilty to illegally voting in five federal elections between 2012 and 2024 and falsely claiming American citizenship during voter registration, according to the US Department of Justice press release monitored by the People’s Gazette.
Although Otuka is a lawful resident, she is precluded from voting in U.S. elections. However, records show she voted in 2012, 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2024.
Otuka received a notice in 2025 that her registration status was being examined because information had been received regarding her lack of U.S. citizenship. She did not respond.
In 2025, Otuka filled out a naturalization application that indicated she had voted unlawfully.

Otuka faces a maximum $250,000 fine alongside the potential six-year sentence. Her sentencing is scheduled for November 5.
In a separate but related case, Samuel James Hall, a 50-year-old UK citizen legally residing in Houston, pleaded guilty in May to illegally voting in the 2024 federal election.
