Arise Television anchor Rufai Oseni has questioned the educational disclosures of presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election, saying Nigerians should scrutinise anyone seeking the country’s highest office, per Daily Post.
Arise Television presenter Rufai Oseni has raised questions over the educational records submitted by presidential candidates ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general election.
Oseni, co-anchor of The Morning Show, reacted after the Independent National Electoral Commission began displaying candidates’ nomination documents and personal particulars for public scrutiny.
“People that can’t tell you their primary school want to be your president, and Nigerians will vote them,” Oseni wrote on Facebook on Sunday, according to reports.
His remarks came as attention turned to the educational information contained in the documents submitted by candidates.
President Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, reportedly listed a Bachelor of Science degree from Chicago State University, while the spaces for the years of his primary and secondary education were entered as “0000.”
By comparison, documents attributed to Peter Obi, candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, and Atiku Abubakar, candidate of the African Democratic Congress, reportedly contained educational histories dating back to primary school.
Oseni’s intervention adds to scrutiny surrounding candidates’ credentials as the contest for the 2027 presidency gathers pace.
INEC’s publication of the documents allows members of the public to inspect candidates’ submissions. Under the Electoral Act, information believed to be false in a candidate’s affidavit can be challenged in court.
