Tinubu Sends State Police Bill To Senate
President Bola Tinubu has transmitted a Constitution Alteration Bill seeking the establishment of state police to the Senate as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
Naija News reports that the proposed legislation seeks to amend relevant provisions of the 1999 Constitution to create a legal framework for the establishment of state police across the federation.
The move follows repeated calls by the President for constitutional reforms that would enable states to play a more active role in securing their territories.
In February, Tinubu urged the National Assembly to amend the Constitution to accommodate state police, describing the proposal as necessary to tackle terrorism, banditry and other security threats confronting the country.
During his Democracy Day address earlier this month, the President reiterated his administration’s resolve to tackle insecurity and warned that terrorists, bandits and their sponsors would face the full weight of the law.
Court Rejects El-Rufai’s Bid To Relax Bail Conditions
The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused an application by former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, seeking a variation of the bail conditions earlier imposed on him.
Naija News reports that Justice Joyce Abdulmalik dismissed the request on Tuesday while ruling on an application filed by the former governor.
El-Rufai, through his counsel, Paul Erokoro (SAN), had urged the court to review some of the bail conditions, describing them as harsh, stringent and difficult to fulfil.
The senior advocate argued that the requirements for sureties, including Level 17 civil servants with properties in Maitama or Asokoro, as well as verification and attestation letters from the Kaduna State Traditional Council, were onerous.
However, counsel for the Department of State Services, Oluwole Aladedoye (SAN), opposed the application, insisting that qualified public officers who met the conditions were available.
In her ruling, Justice Abdulmalik held that the conditions were not impossible to meet and declined to vary them.
IGP Disu Issues Fresh Directive To Police On Social Media Usage
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has directed all officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to desist from unauthorised social media activities capable of undermining the integrity, professionalism, and public image of the Force.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okonkon Edem Iniedu, the directive follows growing concerns over the increasing trend of police personnel creating and publishing videos, conducting live sessions, and engaging in other social media activities while in uniform or in circumstances that identify them as members of the Nigeria Police Force without official authorisation.
Naija News reports that the IGP emphasised that while social media remains an important tool for communication and public engagement, its use by serving officers must be guided by extant laws, regulations, and the Nigeria Police Force Social Media Policy.
He noted that officers are prohibited from creating or sharing unauthorised content in police uniform, commenting publicly on official police matters, disclosing sensitive operational information, or using their status as police officers for personal promotion, entertainment, or commercial gain.
U.S Identifies ISIS Funding Network In Nigeria, Others
The United States has designated a Nigerian national and other individuals and entities across Europe, the Middle East and West Africa as alleged financial facilitators linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

According to the statement, three individuals and six entities were targeted for allegedly helping ISIS move funds for its global operations.

The U.S. said the latest designations covered France, Syria, Türkiye and Nigeria, describing the network as one used to move money across borders.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command was aware of a video circulating online claiming that the abducted victims from Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities had been moved out of Oyo State.
