Kidnappers soften demands as troops tighten siege on forest holding abducted Oyo pupils

Fresh hope is emerging for dozens of abducted pupils and teachers in Oyo State as security agencies intensify surveillance around the forest where they are believed to be held by suspected Ansaru terrorists. Intelligence-led operations have reportedly increased pressure on the kidnappers, forcing them to soften earlier demands.

According to reports by Naija News, the abductors are no longer insisting on the release of top Ansaru commanders and are instead seeking ransom payments and the freedom of lower-ranking members. Security sources say optimism is growing that the 39 pupils and six teachers could soon regain their freedom. One teacher was reportedly killed.

Investigators believe the gang leader has strong local knowledge of the Oriire area. Meanwhile, former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar urged Nigerians to support security agencies and avoid politicising insecurity, stressing that defeating terrorism requires a united national effort.
