Katsina checkpoint video: Police clarify motorcycle riders were hunters, vigilantes

The police have dismissed claims that officers waved bandits through a Katsina checkpoint, insisting the men in the viral video were vigilantes and hunters working with security agencies.

The Nigeria Police Force has pushed back against claims that officers allowed armed bandits to pass through a checkpoint in Katsina State, insisting the viral video has been widely misrepresented.

Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okonkon Edem Iniedu, said the men seen on motorcycles were not bandits but recognised members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and registered hunters operating in Musawa and Matazu local government areas.

According to the police, the footage simply showed a routine interaction between an officer and security volunteers heading to support anti-crime operations.

Naija News reports authorities have urged Nigerians to rely on official channels rather than unverified social media claims.
