Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has declared that fully tinted vehicles will no longer be tolerated on Nigerian roads, citing their use by kidnappers, one-chance operators and other criminals as justification for the coming crackdown.
IGP: YOUR TINTED CAR IS A CRIMINAL’S BEST FRIEND
Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police isn’t mincing words — fully tinted vehicles are on their way out.
Speaking during a Nigerian Bar Association courtesy visit in Abuja, IGP Olatunji Disu announced the Police Force is moving toward banning fully tinted vehicles from Nigerian roads entirely, per PM News.
His reasoning is backed by hard numbers. During a crackdown on “one chance” operators in the FCT, police recovered 27 vehicles — 26 of them fully tinted. “Kidnappers, one chance operators and other criminals were tinting their vehicles deliberately for criminal activities,” he said.
Disu also flagged a growing safety concern — officers at checkpoints can’t see vehicle occupants approaching, putting their lives at risk.
Only security and medical needs legally justify tinted vehicles, he stressed, and even those have limits.
Enforcement is coming. Consider yourself warned.
