Alhaji Kehinde, a US returnee, has been arrested by Oyo State’s Violent Crime Response Unit alongside gang members for dispossessing two victims of their Lexus RX350 SUVs at gunpoint in Ibadan, with one vehicle allegedly meant to be exchanged for hard drugs from Ghana.
Alhaji Kehinde a.k.a. Kenny (surname withheld) is a man who has travelled to countries outside Nigeria, having lived in the United States, where he claims to have a wife and two children before finally settling back in Nigeria. But strangely, he decided to add armed robbery to his curriculum vitae.
Alhaji Kehinde was recently arrested by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Oyo State Police Command over allegations that, alongside gang member Mojeed Yusuf a.k.a. DJ Potter, he dispossessed two victims of their unregistered Lexus RX350 SUVs at gunpoint in Ibadan within four months.
Saturday Tribune gathered that the arrest followed a report by complainant Abdulazeez Abdulgafar on June 2, 2026, after he was robbed at gunpoint of his vehicle, iPhone, gold earring worth N700,000 and over N2 million cash at Odo Ona-Apata, Ibadan.
Police spokesperson DSP Olayinka Ayanlade confirmed the arrests, saying Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Ayodeji Abimbola directed an immediate intelligence-led operation that tracked the stolen vehicle to Iju-Ishaga, Lagos.
Investigators found the gang had planned to exchange the SUV for N13 million worth of hard drugs with a Ghanaian drug baron, through an associate identified as Oluwaseun a.k.a. Little. The suspects were eventually arrested on June 6 after VCRU operatives laid an ambush.
Kehinde allegedly attempted to help gang member Mojeed evade arrest by smuggling out his phone number through his wife, prompting Mojeed to flee to his hometown, Sepeteri, before he was eventually caught.
A second victim later identified the suspects as those who robbed him of his Lexus SUV in February, which Kehinde reportedly sold to a Lagos dealer, who resold it to a clergyman in Port Harcourt for N23 million.
Kehinde confessed to Saturday Tribune, describing himself as a former US-based developer who partnered with Mojeed to specialise in snatching unregistered vehicles.
