The UK has updated its student visa financial requirements, exempting only Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia among African countries from submitting upfront proof of funds, while major source countries like Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya must still comply.
Only 3 African Countries Exempt From UK Visa Proof of Funds
Good news for a few, business as usual for most. According to Leadership Newspapers, the UK has updated its Student and Child Student visa rules, but only three African countries — Botswana, Mauritius and Tunisia — are exempt from submitting proof of funds upfront.
Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa and Egypt didn’t make the cut, meaning applicants from these countries must still provide financial evidence with their applications. Other exempted nations include the US, Canada, China, Japan and several EU countries.
Applicants must still meet financial requirements even if exempted, as officials may request evidence during processing. Students outside London need £1,171 monthly, while those in London require £1,529, funds that must be held for at least 28 days before applying.
