Family apologises over son’s bullying act in Edo school

The family of a student involved in the Igbinedion Education Centre bullying case has issued a public apology to the victim and the school community, expressing deep shame and committing to counseling for their son as state authorities launch a formal investigation.

The family of a student implicated in the viral bullying video at Igbinedion Education Centre has issued a formal apology, expressing “shock and embarrassment” over the footage showing their son beating and kicking a fellow student. In a statement signed by Tim Asoro on Sunday, March 15, 2026, the family described the video as one of the “most distressing and heartbreaking experiences” of their lives and offered a direct apology to the victim and his parents, stating, “To the student who was affected, we want to say from the depths of our hearts that we are truly sorry. No child deserves to be treated in such a manner.”

While confirming that medical reports show the victim is physically stable, the family acknowledged the severity of the emotional trauma, noting their son has expressed “deep remorse and regret” and is now undergoing counseling and moral guidance. The apology comes as the Edo State Police Command officially summoned the school management to handover the involved students for investigation, and the state Ministry of Education inaugurated a five-man committee to identify all culpable parties, with the family asserting, “We once again express our deepest apologies… our family hopes and prays that healing will come to everyone affected by this painful incident.”
