The Bundibugyo virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is intensifying, spreading across six provinces. The World Health Organisation (WHO) reported 4,665 cases and 2,184 deaths as of Wednesday, with a concerning case fatality rate of 46.8%.
This outbreak, now the largest in DRC’s history, originated in Mongbwalu and has expanded to 54 health zones. High infection rates, geographical spread, and deaths are fueling public health emergency concerns, complicated by insecurity and displacement.
