Pro-Biafra group MASSOB has declared a sit-at-home exercise across the South East on May 30 to mark the 59th anniversary of the Biafra declaration and demand the release of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu
The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra has declared a sit-at-home lockdown across the South East on May 30, according to The Sun Nigeria.
MASSOB directed that all markets, schools, banks, motor parks and business premises remain closed from 6am to 4pm to commemorate the 59th anniversary of General Odumegwu Ojukwu’s Biafra declaration in 1967.
In a statement by National Director of Information Samuel Edeson, the group said: “The closure of the public places and services on 30th May 2026 are marks of honour, respect and patriotism to our fatherland.”
MASSOB also used the occasion to demand the release of imprisoned IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, stating: “We demand his immediate release and call for justice for all Biafrans who have been unjustly detained or persecuted.”
The group stressed the exercise would be non-violent, with no street marches or public demonstrations permitted.
