Premium Times reports that the Ooni of Ife has denied conferring a chieftaincy title on actor Baba Ijesha, describing the earlier remark as a light-hearted comment rather than a formal installation.
OONI DENIES TITLE CLAIM
According to Premium Times, a statement from the Ooni’s media office said the phrase “Awada Konge Oduwa” was a light-hearted comedy remark, not a formal conferment, noting that genuine chieftaincy titles in Ile-Ife follow strict customary rites that were not carried out during the visit.
The Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has denied claims that he conferred a chieftaincy title on actor Baba Ijesha, following backlash over the actor’s earlier announcement.
The Ooni said he hosted Baba Ijesha and his wife to celebrate the birth of their son, gifting them a car and cash as a gesture of goodwill, and added that the actor could be considered for a title in future.
