Bayelsa Assembly confirms Peter Akpe as Deputy Governor

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved Peter Akpe, a pastor and former chief of staff to Governor Douye Diri, as the new deputy governor of the state.

The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Peter Akpe as the deputy governor of Bayelsa State. Akpe, a pastor, served as chief of staff to Douye Diri prior to his nomination. The approval followed his consideration by the lawmakers, paving the way for his assumption of office.

Ordained clergy of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Akpe has had a career spanning the civil service and politics. He previously served in the civil services of Rivers and Bayelsa states before transitioning fully into politics. Between 2011 and 2019, he was a two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, where he served as majority leader throughout his tenure.

Akpe also held the position of commissioner between 2008 and 2011 under the administration of Seriake Dickson. His appointment as deputy governor adds to his extensive record of public service within the state.
