Panic erupts as fire guts Polaris Tower on Lagos Island

A fire broke out on the third floor of the 17-storey Polaris Bank Tower on Lagos Island Thursday, sparking panic before firefighters quickly contained it with no casualties reported, according to Vanguard.

It was a scary few hours on Broad Street, Lagos Island, after fire broke out at the Polaris Bank Tower around 11:33 a.m. Thick smoke sent occupants and business operators scrambling for safety, with eyewitness videos quickly making the rounds online.

Firefighters from Ebute Elefun and Sari Iganmu stations rushed in and traced the blaze to a parked car on the third floor — which doubles as a parking deck. Lagos Fire Service Director Margaret Adeseye confirmed only the vehicle and nearby area were damaged, with no injuries. By 3 p.m., things were back to normal. (Source: Vanguard)
