FG targets 40 million homes, N600bn from digital TV switch

The Federal Government has launched Nigeria’s Digital Switch Over programme, targeting 40 million homes and over N600bn in economic opportunities.

After years of false starts, Nigeria has finally pulled the plug on analogue TV. According to Punch Newspapers, the FG launched its Digital Switch Over programme in Abuja, promising to reach 40 million homes and unlock over N600bn in economic value.

Communications Minister Bosun Tijani called it a milestone tied to the government’s $1tn economy ambition, while also revealing plans for 90,000km of fibre-optic infrastructure and two new satellites. Officials say the switch will mean clearer pictures, better sound, more jobs, and broadcasting access for even Nigeria’s remotest communities — finally bringing the digital divide to an end.
