The Nigerian Navy uncovered a camouflaged reservoir holding roughly 17,000 litres of suspected stolen crude hidden beneath vegetation in Delta State’s Ugbokodo Creek, exposing a working node in an illegal oil-theft supply chain.
Oil thieves in the Niger Delta just got outsmarted by a drone. Personnel aboard the Nigerian Navy Ship Delta, running “Operation Delta Sentinel” on a tip, combed the Ugbokodo Creek axis in Warri and almost walked away empty-handed — until aerial footage flagged a freshly dug pit buried under leaves, planks, and thick brush, according to Punch.
Inside: about 17,000 litres of suspected stolen crude, stashed at what looked like a temporary holding point for a bigger smuggling network. Naval spokesman Abiodun Folorunsho says the find shows just how creative thieves have gotten at hiding their tracks — but also how much better the navy’s surveillance game has become. The haul was seized and handled per standard procedure.
