FG promises 30% uninterrupted power supply to tertiary health facilities by 2027

The Federal Government has promised to deliver reliable electricity to over 35,000 health facilities nationwide by 2027 through the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative.

No light, no healthcare — and Nigeria’s government is finally doing something about it.

Punch Healthwise reports that the Federal Government has pledged 30 per cent uninterrupted power supply to tertiary health facilities by end of 2027 under the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative.

Speaking at a Lagos investor matchmaking forum Monday, Power Minister Joseph Tegbe and Health Minister Iziaq Salako said unreliable electricity has long crippled Nigeria’s healthcare system — draining budgets, stalling surgeries, and spoiling vaccines.

The initiative targets solar mini-grids, hybrid energy systems, and battery storage solutions across all 35,000 registered health facilities at primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.

“When electricity fails, healthcare delivery stagnates,” Salako warned.
