Lagos teacher arrested after anti-banditry school drama triggers student panic
Colleagues of Peter Shodipe, a teacher at Ijaiye Ojokoro Junior College in Lagos, are calling for a fair review of his arrest after a school drama presentation on banditry — part of an officially approved National Awareness Day programme — sparked panic when uninformed students mistook the performance for a real attack and fled into neighbouring schools and nearby roads.
Shodipe, who coordinated the drama for the school’s National Value Education Department, was arrested after police responded to alarm calls and has since been transferred to the state command headquarters, with his family reportedly denied access to him.
The Lagos Police Commissioner’s description of the incident as “content creation” has further outraged colleagues, according to Punch.
