Two Rufus Giwa Polytechnic employees have been arraigned over alleged examination result falsification, as Ondo’s anti-corruption agency vows to tackle misconduct in tertiary institutions.
Fresh controversy has hit Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO), after two members of staff were dragged before a court over alleged examination result manipulation.
According to Daily Trust, the Ondo State Public Complaints, Financial Crimes and Anti-Corruption Commission (SPFACC) arraigned Segun Olowoyo, a lecturer in the Department of Languages, and Saka Olokungboye, a non-academic staff member and Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP) in the institution.
The duo appeared before an Akure Magistrate’s Court on charges bordering on conspiracy and forgery.
Prosecuting counsel, Afolabi Ahmed, told the court that the defendants allegedly worked with another suspect, who is currently at large, to alter the examination records of a National Diploma II spillover student in the Department of Public Administration.
According to the prosecution, the alleged offences took place in February 2023 within the Owo Magisterial District and involved the manipulation of the student’s second-semester results for the 2022/2023 academic session.
The prosecution maintained that the alleged acts contravened Sections 516 and 467 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Ahmed informed the court that the prosecution plans to call three witnesses as the trial progresses.
