Hundreds of people abducted by Boko Haram militants in Nigeria’s north-eastern Borno state have been freed after months in captivity. The Nigerian army says the victims were rescued during ‘a major intelligence-led operation’.
We commend the Nigerian military for successfully rescuing 360 people from Boko Haram captivity in Borno State.
However, the same terrorist group is reportedly holding 46 schoolchildren and teachers captive in Oyo State.
This raises an important question: what is the operational difference between the 360 rescued in Borno and the 46 still being held in Oyo?
Can the same strategy that secured the release of the Borno victims be deployed to rescue those in Oyo?
Or will the 46 captives have to endure months in captivity before similar action is taken?
Nigerians are eager to see every victim rescued swiftly, regardless of where they are held.
