A couple, Olorunbukunmi Taiwo and his wife, Awolegan Omolola Omotola, have been arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged N1.09bn contract fraud in Ado-Ekiti.
According to Punch Newspapers, the defendants were brought before the Federal High Court by the EFCC’s Ilorin Zonal Directorate on six counts bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and retention of proceeds of crime.
The anti-graft agency alleged that the couple defrauded a widow, Anazia Kenechukwu, through a purported road construction contract said to have been awarded by the Delta State Oil Producing Area Development Commission.
Investigators said N1.98bn was paid into Taiwo’s account and allegedly diverted to acquire properties. Both defendants pleaded not guilty, while the court adjourned the case for further hearing. (Source: Punch Newspapers)
