EFCC clears air on Michael Sesugh’s alleged death in detention

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has pushed back against claims that suspected cyber fraudster Michael Sesugh died in its custody.

According to Daily Post, the anti-graft agency said Sesugh was one of three suspects who escaped from detention in Makurdi after allegedly breaking through the roof of a holding facility restroom. Weeks later, operatives reportedly tracked him to the Kansho area of the Benue State capital.

The EFCC said Sesugh and suspected cult members opened fire on its team during an attempted re-arrest, triggering a gun battle. He was later found wounded by the roadside and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The commission insisted the suspect was neither in custody nor on bail at the time of his death, while police continue investigations.
