A Lagos hotel room allegedly served as the operational base of a sophisticated kidnapping gang that terrorised residents of Jakande, Oke-Afa and Okota before police operatives uncovered and dismantled the network.
A kidnapping gang that allegedly used a hotel in Bucknor Estate, Isolo, Lagos, as a hideout and operational headquarters for planned abductions across Jakande, Oke-Afa and Okota has been uncovered by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Squad 1. According to reports, the suspects checked into a hotel on Graceland Avenue, opposite Duduyemi Bus Stop, posing as regular guests while allegedly coordinating surveillance operations and mapping out targets for kidnapping attacks. The development comes amid growing concerns over the spread of kidnapping across Nigeria, where criminal gangs continue to target schoolchildren, farmers, commuters and residents in both rural and urban communities.
Investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly transformed a hotel room into a command centre from which they monitored potential victims and planned abduction operations. The gang members reportedly blended into everyday life, paying their bills and avoiding suspicion while carrying out surveillance missions across parts of Lagos. They were said to possess luxury vehicles, multiple international passports and foreign travel records, suggesting a well-organised criminal network. Their activities reflect what security observers describe as the emergence of a more sophisticated form of urban kidnapping carried out by organised criminal groups operating discreetly within major cities.
Residents of Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa and Bungalow Road had reportedly been gripped by fear following a series of abductions and violent attacks in recent weeks. Witnesses said armed men frequently intercepted vehicles at night, forcibly abducting occupants before fleeing the scene. One such incident reportedly occurred on Bucknor Road, where a driver was kidnapped and a passenger shot during an attack. Recalling the operation, an eyewitness identified simply as Mope said, “Everything was done very fast. He was the one directing them. You could tell he was in charge. That same operational pattern was repeated on that same route a few days earlier.”
