Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, is urging innovators, researchers and tech startups to help reshape the country’s security architecture through locally developed technology.
Speaking at the Omniverse Africa 3.0 Summit in Lagos, Musa said modern security threats demand more than traditional military hardware, stressing the need for Nigeria to reduce dependence on imported defence technology.
According to PM News, the Defence Ministry is reviewing its policies and training systems to prioritise artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity, surveillance technology, secure communications and local manufacturing.
Musa said the reforms align with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and could spur economic growth, create skilled jobs and boost research. He also launched the Defence Futures Lab Pathway to strengthen collaboration between defence stakeholders and the tech community.
