The incident reportedly occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday around the Community Bank axis of the MDS area, throwing residents into panic as heavily armed assailants fired multiple shots at his vehicle. The attack has heightened security concerns in the area.
SaharaReporters gathered that the gunmen repeatedly shot at a blue Toyota Corolla carrying Ajibola and his friends, riddling the vehicle with bullets in what witnesses described as a coordinated operation. The Accord Party chieftain sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the University of Osun Teaching Hospital (UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital), Osogbo, where he remains on the danger list and is receiving treatment.
One of the occupants of the vehicle who narrated how the attack unfolded said, “We were coming from the MDS area, Osogbo, last night at about 9:50 pm, and all of a sudden, the gun-wielding men chased and released a volley of bullets on all of us in the car. “However, we managed to escape to the Dugbe Divisional Police Headquarters in Osogbo, where we ran for protection before the assailants retreated and ran away.” He added, “We equally reported the matter to the police. After reporting the matter, we rushed the seriously wounded Hon. Asimiyu Ajibola to Uniosun Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, where he is currently receiving medical attention,”.
