Namibia is edging closer to becoming one of Africa’s major oil-producing nations, with first oil production expected by 2030.
According to Business Insider Africa, massive offshore discoveries by energy giants have positioned the southern African country as the continent’s next petroleum powerhouse.
Industry estimates suggest Namibia could eventually produce hundreds of thousands of barrels per day, potentially placing it alongside established producers such as Nigeria, Algeria and former OPEC member Angola in Africa’s top oil league.
The development has already attracted the attention of the OPEC, which has reportedly been courting Namibia as the country prepares to transform its economy through oil exports. However, Namibian officials say full membership is not an immediate priority.
If current projections hold, Namibia’s emergence could mark one of Africa’s biggest energy success stories of the decade, adding a powerful new player to the continent’s oil market.
