I take responsibility for roaming cows in Abuja — Wike

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has accepted responsibility for the continued presence of roaming cattle on Abuja roads, while outlining ongoing infrastructure projects and a 31-day commissioning programme to mark President Bola Tinubu’s third anniversary in office.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken responsibility for the continued presence of cattle on major roads and streets in Abuja, admitting that the situation persists despite efforts to improve the nation’s capital. Speaking during his monthly media briefing in Abuja on Monday, Wike apologised to residents and assured them that the administration was working to address the challenge. “I apologise that up till now there are cows still roaming the streets of Abuja; I take responsibility,” the minister said.

Wike said the FCT Administration was intensifying infrastructure development across the territory, stressing that ongoing projects were not limited to the city centre but extended to satellite towns and area councils. According to him, key investments are being made in road construction, water supply and housing. “Our attention is not only on developing the city centres of Abuja. We are also working in all the Area Councils. We are providing infrastructure everywhere across the FCT,” he said.

The minister also announced plans for a series of project inaugurations in collaboration with President Bola Tinubu as part of activities marking the administration’s third year in office. “To celebrate Mr President’s three years in office, the FCTA will commission projects for the next 31 days commencing June 8, 2026,” he said. Wike maintained that completed and ongoing road projects have improved connectivity and enhanced security in several communities across the FCT.
