Nigerian ambassador‑designate Femi Fani‑Kayode has warned Rabiu Kwankwaso not to trust Peter Obi’s one‑term presidential pledge, alleging that Obi has “betrayed every single leader he has had since 1999” and will “drop him like a hot potato” if the NDC ticket ever wins power.
ABUJA – Femi Fani‑Kayode, Nigeria’s ambassador‑designate to South Africa, has cautioned former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwangwaso against believing Peter Obi’s one‑term presidential agenda, describing the former Labour Party candidate as a serial betrayer.
The warning follows the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC)’s decision to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the South for four years – a move heavily backed by Kwankwaso that cleared the way for Obi to contest.
In a statement on Sunday, Fani‑Kayode accused Obi of having “betrayed every single leader he has had since 1999 and abandoned every single one of the 5 political parties whose platform he has used”. He added: “Peter will dribble him like a yoyo and then drop him like a hot potato.”
The ambassador‑designate further argued that the NDC has “no hope of winning”, and that Obi’s attempt to split the southern vote will “roundly be defeated by PBAT in a few months time”.
