Presidential adviser Tope Fasua has urged Nigerians to reduce their spending and live within their means amid growing concerns over the rising cost of living in the country.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Economic Affairs, Tope Fasua, has advised Nigerians to adjust their spending habits to match their income levels as economic hardship continues to bite across the country. Fasua made the remarks during a members-only Coffee Hangout organised by Kay Hikers Club in Abuja, where participants raised concerns over inflation, insecurity and declining purchasing power.
During a heated exchange with a female attendee who criticised the worsening economic situation and rising food prices, Fasua acknowledged the increasing cost of living but insisted that families could still manage their resources prudently. The woman had argued that many Nigerians could no longer afford basic necessities due to soaring prices of food and household items.
Responding, Fasua urged Nigerians to embrace more modest lifestyles in line with prevailing economic realities. “A modest family will feed for several days with ₦10,000,” he said, while maintaining that households must “cut their coat according to their size.” His comments have since generated reactions online amid continuing public debate over the state of the economy and the impact of government reforms on ordinary Nigerians.
Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to social media platforms to react to the aide, Tope Fasua.

I love this. Tope Fasua was all sanctimonious on tv before the elections, reeling out data on development. But as soon as Tinubu made him an Advisor, he became the forerunner of the ill policies of the administration
