Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former aide to ex-Governor Bello Matawalle, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police alleging that two senior officers confessed to the extrajudicial killing of activist Dadiyata and others while coercing him to implicate political rivals.
Musa Muhammad Kamarawa, a former Special Adviser to the former Governor of Zamfara State, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has leveled grave allegations against two senior police officers, CSP Hussaini Gimba and CSP Hassan Gimba. In a formal letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kamarawa claims that during his detention, the officers engaged in extortion, illegal searches, and psychological torture. Most significantly, he alleges the officers boasted of their involvement in the disappearance and killing of renowned activist Dadiyata and several other political figures, using these deaths as a tool of intimidation to ensure his compliance.
The petition details a harrowing account of alleged police brutality and the weaponization of security forces for political ends. Kamarawa claims he was explicitly warned to distance himself from influential figures, including former Sokoto State Governor Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, under the threat of death. “They treated me as if I were a target,” Kamarawa stated, further alleging that the officers admitted to carrying out extrajudicial executions during “Operation Yaki” in Kaduna. According to the letter, the officers claimed they were acting under specific instructions to target political adversaries of the former Zamfara State administration.
Kamarawa’s disclosure provides a potential breakthrough in the long-unresolved disappearance of Dadiyata, linking it to a broader pattern of state-sponsored violence. In his written statement to the IGP, Kamarawa emphasized the gravity of the threats he faced: “I have never disclosed our relationship with him because they treat to kill me as they killed Dadiyata and Saminu S/Fada Gusau amongst others in my presence at Operations Yaki Kaduna.” He further noted that the officers pressured him regarding his political ties, stating, “They kept asking me about my relationship with the former Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa, and I was told I shouldn’t disclose my connections to him because they were instructed by Matawalle to target him.”
