Joseph Tegbe has pledged visible improvements in Nigeria’s power sector while ruling out unrealistic promises of immediate 24-hour electricity supply.
Joseph Tegbe, minister of power, has said he will not make unrealistic promises on electricity supply but pledged to deliver visible improvements within the shortest time possible. Tegbe made the remarks on Wednesday while addressing a committee of senators during his screening for ministerial appointment.
He described the power sector as critical to productivity and national confidence, noting that its reform remains one of the most challenging tasks facing the country. According to him, despite years of investments and policy changes, Nigerians still grapple with inconsistent electricity supply, estimated billing and general uncertainty.
“I will not stand here and say tomorrow, I will give you 24 hours electricity. But what I will tell you, and I will be very honest about it, is that I will ensure that visible improvement is seen across the country in the shortest time possible,” Tegbe said. He added, “I will replace uncertainty for Nigerians with clarity, and inefficiency with discipline.”
