Representative Ifeanyi Uzokwe has attributed the mass exodus from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s refusal to step aside for a Southern presidential candidate. Uzokwe, who recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), alleged Atiku rejected pleas to allow figures like Peter Obi or Rotimi Amaechi to contest the ticket, claiming Atiku insisted: “the coalition was formed in his house, that the ADC is his party.”
Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, dismissed the claims as “irresponsible” and “justification shopping” for the lawmaker’s defection. Ibe challenged Uzokwe to provide evidence, stating, “I do not recall Atiku ever saying anything about the coalition being formed in his house.” Uzokwe was among 17 lawmakers who defected Monday following the exits of Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
